The 2019 Cycling New Zealand Track riders of the year were announced this week during the Vantage Elite National Championships.
These annual awards were established by Cycling New Zealand Road and Track to recognise outstanding performances in cycling through a calendar year and is awarded at a Junior and Senior Level.
The awards were presented by Cycling New Zealand Road and Track Life Member, Mr Bruce Goldsworthy.
We congratulate the following athletes on their achievements.
Female Elite Track Rider of the year – Kirstie James
In recognition of her performances at the 2019 UCI World Championship and in particular her outstanding results in Individual Pursuit and contribution to the Team Pursuit.
Male Elite Track Rider of the year – Campbell Stewart
In recognition of his performances at the 2019 UCI World Championship and in particular, his outstanding results in Omnium event to gain a Senior World Title.
Junior Female Track Rider of the year – Ally Wollaston
In recognition of her performances at the 2019 UCI Junior World Championship and in particular her outstanding results in the Individual Pursuit and her contribution to the Team Pursuit.
Junior Male Track Rider of the year – Laurence Pithie
In recognition of his performances at the 2019 UCI Junior World Championship and in particular his outstanding results in the Omnium and Madison.
Track Team of the year – New Zealand Women’s Team Pursuit (Michaela Drummond, Bryony Botha, Holly Edmondston, Kirstie James, Rushlee Buchanan)
In recognition of their performances at the 2019 UCI World Championship with the bronze medal ride in the Team Pursuit.
Emerging Talent of the year – Corbin Strong and Ally Wollaston
Corbin receives this award in recognition his contribution at the UCI World Championships and his commitment to continued development as he transitioned into the elite ranks.
In addition to the achievements that saw Ally receive the Junior Track Rider of the year, she is further recognised for the manner in which she has continued your development into the elite ranks
