Current leading number one UCI Continental team in the World, Bolton Equities Black Spoke Pro Cycling announces it has received a UCI ProTeam license for 2023.
Founder and team owner Murray Bolton, a successful businessman and sports enthusiast, has backed the team at the UCI Continental level (third-tier level) since its inception. Finding the right talent with a drive and potential to succeed is a cornerstone of the Bolton Equities Black Spoke project. Murray and the team are excited to take the team to UCI ProTeam level for 2023.
“This team was founded with the aim to provide opportunities for promising New Zealanders to gain the experience to be able to compete on the UCI World Tour circuit,” says Scott Guyton, Team Manager. “With this season’s great results, advancing to UCI ProTeam level seemed like a natural progression allow- ing the riders to compete in higher level races. We are over the moon with the official confirmation of our UCI ProTeam license for the 2023 season”
“None of this would be possible without the support of Murray and Bolton Equities, our amazing partners and everyone involved in taking this kiwi team to the next level. We are proud to be flying the NZ flag”
Riders for 2023
The team will boost the New Zealand and Oceania Road and Time Trial champions James Fouché, Logan Currie, Aaron Gate and Regan Gough, as well as new signings, Rory Townsend, current Irish road champion and Matt Bostock, current British criterium champion. Our team roster for 2023 will consist of 20 riders.
Team leader since 2020, Aaron Gate has been a key role model and mentor for the young riders. The team is ecstatic about Aaron continuing with the team for next season. Gate, has just added four Commonwealth Games gold medals to his long list of results. Current New Zealand national road champion and Oceania champion, James Fouche will also rejoin the team for the 2023-2024 seasons, as will Tom Sexton, 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist.
About Bolton Equities Black Spoke
The New Zealand registered team has won over 35 UCI races from 2020 to date, including several national titles in road and track, reigning Oceania champions, five gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the New Zealand Cycle Classic, the Tour of Hellas (Greece), a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and a sil- ver medal at the UCI Track World Championships.
Scott Guyton said that the team’s kiwi culture and family atmosphere won’t change with the second-tier status. The kiwi culture is a key element of team owners, Murray Bolton’s vision for his predominantly kiwi team.
“The riders and support network are professional but have fun along the way. When the riders are happy in their surroundings, the results seem to follow,” comments Guyton.
“The jump to UCI ProTeam will allow the team to compete in bigger races against more of the world’s top riders. We can’t wait to take this squad to the next level,’ Guyton added.
