Former New Zealand junior and Australian pathways coach, Jon Andrews has been appointed lead sprint coach for the Cycling New Zealand team through to the Paris Olympics.

His fixed term appointment fills the void through to the Olympic Games after previous head coach, Nick Flyger resigned for family reasons to return to Australia.

Andrews is a former double Commonwealth Games sprint cycling medallist and Olympian. He earned bronze medals in the individual sprint and 1000m time trial at Auckland in 1990 and competed at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

He became coach of the Waikato-BOP development hub and Cycling New Zealand junior coach before taking up the coaching role with Cycling Australia.

The appointment included consultation with riders in the high performance programme.
