The all-important pre-Olympic National Track Cycling Championships will be staged in Cambridge next year.

Cycling New Zealand have confirmed the championships will be held at the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in Cambridge from 2 to 7 March 2024.

It will fall in the middle of an extremely busy period of racing for track riders with the Oceania Championships and three rounds of the UCI Nations Cup from February to April that all provide qualification points for the Paris Olympics.

The New Zealand Championships will be a further racing opportunity for New Zealand riders, and will incorporate the changes made by the world body, the UCI.

This includes a change to a calendar year for all competitions rather than seasonal, which means there will be no competition for the omnium and madison disciplines in the usual date of December which has previously decided champions for the following year.

The 2024 national champions in omnium and madison will be decided at the Cambridge event, which has been lengthened to six days to accommodate the additional events.
