Competitive laps for Kiwis for Penultimate day in China

UCI JUNIOR TRACK CYCLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – DAY 4

New Zealand riders produced competitive performances without the opportunity of bling on the penultimate day of the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Luoyang, China.

Southland’s Riley Faulkner was sixth fastest in qualifying in the women’s 500m time trial, recording an impressive 34.985s which earned a start among the fastest eight riders in the final.

Faulkner clocked 35.157s in the final to finish seventh.

Fellow Southland rider, Caitlin Kelly clocked 36.299s in qualifying to be 13th overall.

Meghan Baker from Christchurch produced a strong ride in qualifying in the 2000m individual pursuit to be seventh fastest from 22 starters, to be less than two seconds off a medal ride.

The national records in both the time trial and individual pursuit are held by Paris Olympic Games’ double gold medallist, Ellesse Andrews.

Southland rider Magnus Jamieson 10th overall in the men’s omnium with a competitive performance. He was sixth in the scratch race, 13th in the tempo, seventh in the elimination  and 11th in the points race for his overall 10th placing.

The final day of the championships feature Daniel Morton and Jamieson in Madison; Kelly and Jodie Blackwood in keirin; Lucas Bhimy in elimination, with Matthew Davidson and Alex Schuler in the 1000m time trial.
